Castlerea, is a small town, and has a selection of pubs, restaurants and shops including Lidl. There is also a Bank of Ireland, Credit Union, several Pharmacies and a post office.

~Loughglynn lake 1k which is mainly pike fishing.
~Ballinlough lake which is 10k for trout and pike fishing,
~Loughgara lake which is pike and is 16k from the cottage.
~ Roscommon Gofd Club is a formidable par 72 (73 for ladies) with a championship distance of 6067 metres. Green Fees Monday to Friday EUR25, Sat/Sun EUR30.
~ Ballaghadreen Golf Club is only 6 miles away and is a 9-hole course. Green Fees are EUR15 per day.
~ Lough Key Forest and Activity Park in Boyle. The Visitor Centre is the gateway to the parkland and forest at Lough Key. Facilities at the centre include a restaurant, gift shop, conference facilities, toilets, and baby changing facilities. The development also includes the tree canopy trail, Boda Borg Challenge, and the adventure play kingdom. Boats are available for hire within the park. Guided tours are available for groups by arrangement.
