Driving or cycling along North Mayo's amazing coastline you'll see Dun Briste--an impressive sea stack off Downpatrick Head, a signature discovery point on the Wild Atlantic Way. From the property, a 5 minute drive will bring you to the beach and a further 5 minutes, to Downpatrick Head.
The surrounding area of Ballycastle is rich with archaeological treasures, and there is a permanent sculpture trail, Ti'r S'aile, which marks this ancient landscape. The village of Ballycastle is home to the Ballinglen Arts Foundation which attracts artists of international acclaim whose work can be viewed in the gallery.
A bakery, tea room, and traditional pubs with traditional music complete the charm of this unspoilt village.
From the property, a 5 minute drive along the Wild Atlantic Way will bring you to the Ceide Fields, the world's oldest known field systems, housing an award winning visitors centre and viewing platform over the Atlantic and a teashop.
As well as cliff walks the Western Way walking trail runs through Ballycastle as does the Monasteries of the Moy greenway cycling/walking trail and cycle hire is available in the village. There are Championship Golf courses at Enniscrone and Carne / Belmullet and a lovely parkland course in Ballina all within 40 minutes' drive. There is horse riding within 30 minutes' drive, Sea fishing locally and fishing tackle available to hire in the village. There is also River fishing in Ballina in the River Moy which is regarded as one of the best salmon fishing rivers in Europe.
Ballycastle beach is safe for swimming and becoming popular with surfers and scuba divers. There are stunning beaches at Lacken and Ross and a natural outdoor swimming pool at Belderrig, all within a 15 minutes' drive.
