This delightful cottage is within walking distance of Carna village an irish speaking region of Connemara 23 miles from Clifden town and 45 miles from Galway city. A wonderful setting in its own secluded grounds with mature trees and a small trickling stream with bridged walkway. This area of Connemara is pure natural and beautiful, devoid of commercialism with small fields, stone walls and turquoise blue white sandy beaches. Relax or take a day trips to the Connemara National Park, Kilemore Abbey and its Victorian walled garden, InnisBoffin or a cruise around Killary Harbour. A week wont be long enough!

Carna is an important lobster-fishing centre. From Carna there is a short detour to Maoinis (Mweenish) 5 km to the south, an island linked by bridge to the mainland. It has beautiful sandy beaches and is the site of a marine biology station operated by University College, Galway.
The Aran Islands are famous for their unique way of life and the panoramic views of Connemara. Dun Aonghasa is one of the most dramatic stone forts and all three Islands have beautiful beaches and breathtaking walks. The ferry for the islands leaves from Rossaveal and is a 40 min drive, you can also fly with Aer Arann which is also a 40 min drive away.
Inish Bofin Located on the north west coast of Connemara, is something special and unique.* The Island is a haven of beauty, boasting magnificent scenery from cliff top walks to the sea on all sides to white sandy beaches and plenty of rare flora and fauna. The ferry to Inishbofin takes 30 minutes and leaves from Cleggan pier which is 45 minutes drive from the cottage.
Kylemore Abbey is the most popular visitor attraction in the west of Ireland and is only 40 mins drive from the cottage. Kylemore Abbey is the oldest of the Irish Benedictine Abbeys, and features a visitor centre, Victorian Walled Gardens, a Neo-gothic church, Mausoleum, Oak plantation and Woodland Walks.
Connemara National Park which is a 40 min drive away is a 2000 hectare park and visitor centre incorporating mountains, bogs, wonderful walks and wildlife. Four of the famous Twelve Bens mountain range feature in the park with the scenery and views quiet spectacular. There are picnic facilities, nature trails and a summer series of walks and illustrated talks.
Killary Cruise is a wonderful sight seeing cruise on Irelands only fjord. On board the cruise you can experience the spectacular killary fjord and breathtaking scenery as you relax and enjoy the comfort and facilities on board. The cruise leaves from near Leenane four times a day during the summer season.
Ballyconneely Golf Course: 18-hole championship links golf course, visitors welcome, equipment can be hired on site.
Pony Trekking is available at 'The Point' in Ballyconneely which is 40 minutes away and offer wonderful Treks over white sandy beaches and hills.
Our best kept secret in the Carna area are our several white sandy beaches all within a 5 min drive from the cottage. Mynish, Moyrus, Callowfeenish and Feenish Island are fabulous secluded, quiet and safe beaches and discovering them only adds to there appeal.
Delphi Adventure Centre - this includes award winning spa, onsite adventure centre providing indoor and outdoor adventure activities for families, couples, groups, corporate organisations, sports teams and individuals seeking adventure, relaxation and excellent food within some of the most awe - inspiring scenery in the world.
A three- day festival, Feile Mhic Dara, is held annually in July, in Carna; it features hooker and currach races, sea-angling competitions, art and craft exhibitions, children's competitions, ceilithe etc.
