The O'Connor Party, June 2018
For all lovers of the Burren - and for those who have not yet had the chance to fall in love with it - this is the perfect place to experience it's magic to the full. For the hill-walkers, Mullaghmore, Slieve Carran, Turlough Hill are all within a 15 minute drive and, even nearer, at Fannin North (just 1km up the road) you can just cross a wall on onto 'the slab' and simply roam about, taking in the wondrous views of the amazing Burren landscape. There are also wonderful loop walks in Carran and the Burren National Park (Lough Avalla is a real treat!) that are suitable for all fitness levels and ideal for families with young children - again, within 10-15 minute drive. For the naturalists - well, it is the Burren after all. When we were there the cranesbill was flowering in perfusion everywhere, as was the burnet rose and several varieties of orchid. Between observing the flowers and the unique rock formations even the shortest walk was a joy. With Cassidy's pub in Carran, where excellent pub grub is available all day, a mere 10 minutes away - there's no need to go further afield. Although venturing further - we headed to Ballyvaughan and Ennistymon to eat in Monks and Pot Duggans, respectively, and to the Heritage Centre in Kilfenora - is also really enjoyable. Pure magic!
