It is within walking distance of the village centre and from the doorstep it looks down into the Inner Bay of Dundrum. There is a bus service to Belfast city and surrounding towns. Nearby is Murlough Nature Reserve, a National Trust site, with good access to Murlough beach. It is also close to the Mourne Mountains, Tyrella beach, the historic town of Downpatrick and small local fishing villages such as Ardglass and Strangford. The Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle has two 18-hole golf courses.
