AVIS (S-IRELAND) CAR RENTAL A QUICK GUIDE TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR CAR HIRE


If you have never hired a car before, it can be confusing, and even for people who are familiar with car hire, rules are still often misunderstood. Please take some time out to read the following information. Car hire purchased through Imagine Ireland with Avis Car Rentals, includes: 1 Driver, Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Protection, Unlimited Mileage, Third Party Cover, Road Tax, 24 hour road side assistance, Airport Pick-Up Surcharge & VAT. Additional charges made to your credit card on pick up vary according to the car type you are hiring.


You must take the following with you for presentation at the car hire desk


1. Please present your Imagine Ireland car hire voucher. (Your voucher is your proof of payment and in its absence, you will be asked to pay again and car hire will be charged to your credit card at the desk.)


2. The driver will be asked for their Credit Card which will take an imprint to pre-authorise any additional charges. Nothing will be charged to your card until you return. The Excess can be reduced purchasing Super Damage Waiver Insurance.


3. The driver will be asked to present his/her full driving licence. Customers with a new UK Photocard Driver's Licence must produce both the Photocard and its paper counterpart. You will be asked if you require cover for any extra drivers.


4. Should you have requested a baby seat or child seat, this is payable locally.


5. Personal accident insurance – cover for the driver & passengers for personal injury or death can be taken out at an additional charge of €5 per day ask at the desk.


6. You will be asked to sign for any damages against a checklist and it is important to check the vehicle for physical damage and report to the car hire agent before leaving the premises.


7. Before you sign the car hire agreement please check that you understand the charges being made to your credit card. 8. Avis allows 59 minutes grace after this time you will be charged an additional day.


Excess Charge Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Super Damage Waiver. (SDW)


The Limited Excess amount pertaining to your car(s) is outlined below. Super Damage Waiver reduces the excess to zero. SDW insurance cost from €14 per day for normal cars and €19 per day for luxury cars and minivans. SDW will be offered to you on arrival at the car hire desk. If you do not require this, you must make it clear to the Car Hire Agent at the arrival desk. Remember you always remain liable for damage to the tyres, windscreen and keys.


Fuel Charges


Avis Car Rentals charge a FLAT fee for a tank of fuel (depending on the car type) by taking an imprint from your credit card. We strongly recommend that you return the car empty (There is no refund for unused fuel) or with full tank of fuel.


What Driver Information & drivers licence requirements apply?


All drivers must be in possession of a full-unendorsed drivers licence at the time of rental.(Certain minor endorsements are acceptable i.e. Up to 9 points on your licence). All drivers must have held a full drivers licence for at least 12 months prior to hiring a car with Avis Car Rentals and must present themselves with their full-unendorsed drivers licence at the pick up location at the time of rental. Holders of US, Canadian, Australian and All EU member states are NOT required to supply an International Driving Licence (IDL). An International Driving Licence (IDL) is required if your national drivers licence is not in Roman script. International drivers licence MUST be accompanied by the original domestic licence of the driver. (This is clearly stated on the International Licence).


What are the drivers licence and age requirements?


Drivers under 25 must have held their full licence for at least 24 months prior to the date of pick up. The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 23 years (no upper limit). Between the age of 23-25 years there is a young drivers charge of €11.90 per day. All drivers must present their unendorsed full licence at the Avis Car Rentals desk and must sign the rental contract.


Can more than one person drive the car? Additional drivers can be added locally for an additional €8.50 per day per driver (€59.50 for any duration). The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 23 years (no upper age limit) and drivers under 25 must have held a full drivers licence for at least 24 months prior to hiring a car.


What credit cards do Avis Car Rentals accept?


The credit card must be in the name of the driver. Avis Car Rentals accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Diners Club. They do not accept Avis Laser Cards or debit cards for payment purposes; neither do they accept cash as payment method.


Can I hire a baby seat/child seat?


Baby seats are not available for children under six months old. Child seats cost an additional charge of €40 per rental (inc VAT). Child seats are mandatory by law for children from 12 months to 4.5 years. Child seats are available upon request and need to be booked in advance. Children from 3 to 12 years must use the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushions when travelling in the car. Child booster seats cost €15.00 per rental including VAT.


Can I drive my car into Northern Ireland?


Yes. There is no extra charge for doing so. However, if you wish to drive in Northern Ireland it is a requirement of rental to inform Avis Car Rentals that you wish to do so upon collection of the vehicle (usually at the airport desk). The renter is free then to drive throughout Northern Ireland. Cars can not be taken off the island of Ireland.


What happens if the car breaks down?


In the very unlikely event of a breakdown with Avis Car Rentals help is never far away. You are covered by 24hour AA Roadside assistance insurance. Details of this service will be provided in the rental agreement wallet you receive on arrival. Customers are liable for damage to tyres, windscreen or loss of keys during their rental. GPS Daily charge of €15 per day (incl VAT). Weekly charge of €75 (incl VAT)

Excess Charge Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Super Damage Waiver. (SDW)


You have hired 1 car(s). On the 1 car(s) the Limited Excess Amount pertaining to your car(s) is outlined below and varies from €1,200.00 to €1,800.00 depending on the car and will be deducted from your credit card. When the car is returned undamaged your credit card is refunded within 5-10 working days. On the 1 car(s) you declined Super Damage Waiver Insurance. Super Damage Waiver Insurance reduces the excess to €100 euro. SDW insurance costs from €11.50 euro per day for normal cars and €16.00 euro per day for luxury cars and minivans. SDW insurance can be purchased from Imagine Ireland before you travel and you can save on the daily cost. Alternatively it will be offered to you on arrival at the car hire desk. If you do not require this, you must make it clear to the Car Hire Agent at the arrival desk. Remember you always remain liable for €100 euro excess and damage to the tyres and windscreen.


Fuel Charges Irish Car Rentals automatically charge a FLAT fee for a tank of fuel, we therefore strongly recommend that you return the car empty or with a full tank of fuel as this will SAVE YOU MONEY. If you return the car with a full tank of fuel Irish Car Rentals will refund the flat fee to your credit card within 5-10 working days.

An International Driving License(IDL) is required if your national drivers license is not in Roman script. International drivers license MUST be accompanied by the original domestic license of the driver. (This is clearly stated on the International License).

The credit card must be in the name of the driver. Irish Car Rentals accepts MasterCard, Visa, Visa Debit, American Express and Diners Club. What happens if the car breaks down?


In the very unlikely event of a breakdown with Irish Car Rentals help is never far away. You are covered by 24hour AA Roadside assistance insurance. Details of this service will be provided in the rental agreement wallet you receive on arrival. However, Irish Car Rentals will bill customers for any call-outs resulting from driver error. €100 + Tax.

Booster seats cost £6.52 + VAT per rental.
