Extra Details...

Glendalough
Glendalough has earned its reputation as the most popular
place for visitors in the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
‘The valley of the two lakes’ is famous for its wild beauty, its
rich spiritual history and its many archaeological sites. It’s an
area steeped in history and atmosphere, with wonderful
mountain walks, woodland trails and lakeside rambles. Dotted around the valley’s twin lakes are a profusion of
archaeological sites of interest including a stone caher, a
number of early Christian monastic churches, a round tower
and a medieval cathedral.

Laragh
Laragh village lies at the junction of several large Wicklow
valleys and many scenic roads meet here, the most important one is the road to Glendalough. It is a beautiful village with the Glenmacnass River running through it and the Avonmore River running just south of here under the Rathdrum Road. Blarney Woollen Mills are opening an outlet soon.

Annamoe
The small village of Annamoe, between Roundwood and
Laragh on the road to Glendalough, is thriving fishing village
where one can fly or bait fish on a 4-acre lake. Rod hires and
bait available. Also separate children's fishing pond to catch
that elusive brown trout, artic char or rainbow trout

Roundwood
The picturesque village of Roundwood, 238 meters above sea level, is the highest of its kind in Ireland and is surrounded by the most spectacular scenery in the country. A popular stopping off point for weary walkers, the village features some charming pubs, restaurants, Caravan Park and the nearby Vartry Reservoir, a shimmering expanse of lakes,
mirrors the surrounding hills.
The Blessington Lakes
Archbishop Michael Boyle built the town of Blessington in 1667. The planned flooding of the Liffey valley in 1940 to create Poulaphuca Reservoir also known as The Blessington Lakes dramatically changed the landscape, with circa 20 sq. km. of water covering some 76 farmhouses and laborers cottages. The Liffey and Kings rivers feed the lakes. The water is held back by the Poulaphuca dam. Today, not only does the lake hold 148 million cubic meters or 5,000 acres of tranquil clean water supplying thousands of Dublin homes and creating electricity, it also offers many water pursuits such as fishing, sailing, windsurfing, boating, leisure cruising and canoeing.

Overlooking the Blessington Lakes is the unique village of Ballyknockan. In 1824, quarrymen arrived on the site in search of work opportunities, and they found granite. Then came the stonecutters carrying with them a tradition almost as old as human life on this island. For over 170 years, this community of quarrymen and stonecutters have provided granite for many of Dublin’s best-known buildings. Ballyknockan has over time become home to skillfully carved artifacts abandoned throughout the village. The village has some beautiful walks with views of the Blessington Lakes. Valleymount is only 3km away, a picturesque village well worth visiting if in the area. Lacken is another beautiful and unspoilt village nearby.

Fishing - Lake 6 miles. Golf 13 miles.
