This property, with nearby sandy beaches, superb fishing, fascinating coastal trails and exclusive golf courses, is a perfect holiday base. The award winning Whitford House Hotel is close by, for nightly entertainment and quality dining (half a mile). Wexford town and its environs offer plenty to keep all the family happy for a week or two, and you will certainly want to return for another holiday.

Wexford county has the highest number of hours of sunshine in Ireland. With sandy beaches, heritage sights, sporting activities, beautiful countryside, good shops, galleries, restaurants and nightlife to suit all tastes, this all makes a wonderful place to holiday.

Wexford town is a mix of old and new. The old parts are picturesque, with narrow, winding, cobbled streets and traditional pubs within the old town walls. The new parts are vibrant and cosmopolitan. Its award winning Quay provides a beautiful waterfront plaza, which hosts markets and other activities. The town has excellent hotels, shops and restaurants.

Attractions within the town and nearby include:

* Johnstown Castle Gardens and Irish Agricultural Museum (4 miles south west of Wexford town). The nineteenth century castle and the formal and wild garden, including a man-made lake, provide a stunning setting for a wide range of trees and shrubs. The pleasure grounds offer extensive walks and a large and well equipped picnic area, with a small cafe in July and August. The former farmyard is home to the
Irish Agricultural Museum. The extensive grounds of the estate are used as an agricultural research centre.
* Westgate Heritage Centre - housed in the tower of the restored Westgate, the only one of seven medieval town gates from the thirteenth century wall to survive. Learn about the history of Wexford town through the excellent audio-visual display. The tower also houses a craft gallery. From the tower, take the battlements walk to the Selskar Abbey.
* Selskar Abbey - attractive ruins of a thirteenth century abbey, including some interesting grave slabs.
* Irish National Heritage Park in nearby Ferrycarrig - sights and sounds from nearly 9,000 years ago. This outstanding heritage trail is set in 35 acres.
* Wexford Wildfowl Reserve - set on the Wexford Slobs and Harbour, a natural haven for birds especially waders and wildfowl, in the shallow harbour, sandbars and mud-banks.
* Wexford Arts Centre - a year round programme of exhibitions, plays, concerts, film, lectures, classes, workshops, plays and other activities. The Centre is housed in a preserved heritage site: a market place and assembly hall built in the 1760s. There is a cafe on site.

Every year Wexford town hosts the International Wexford Festival of Opera, generally in October. The 18 day event specialises in the production of rare operas and attracts opera lovers from around the globe.

There is a blue flag beach five miles away at Curracloe. This also has a nature trail.

Other sporting activities and events include:
* Golf at the Wexford Golf Club - an 18-hole parkland golf course with spectacular panoramic views of the town and harbour, with mountains in the background.
* Horse riding in the Forth Mountain or five miles away at the Shelmalier Riding Stables. Shelmalier has scenic horse riding through 3,000 acres of woodland and also provides lessons, and activities for children in the summer. Also five miles away is Curracloe House Equestrian Centre, which provides trekking on Curracloe Beach or through beautiful countryside.
* Horse racing - the Wexford Racecourse is in Bettyville, overlooking Wexford Harbour. Racing includes flat, hurdles and National Hunt meetings.

Swimming Pool ½ miles. Traditional Music, Horse riding 1 miles. Walking, Golf, Cinema, Fishing - River, Childrens Playground 1½ miles. Bird watching 3 miles. Forest walks, Coastal walks 5 miles. Water sports, Leisure Club with gym, hot-tub, sauna, steam room, Fishing - Deep Sea 8 miles.
