The pretty village of Killala features 2 major buildings of historical interest - 12th century round tower and 17th century Church of Ireland cathedral of St Patrick. The narrow and winding streets and tall buildings combine with these edifices to create a charming village. Fishing and sea angling are very important here, as evidenced by a busy pier. Just offshore is Bartra Island and the nearby Ross Beach has an EU Blue Flag. The river Moy with flows into Killala Bay is renowned for its salmon fishing. Great hospitality awaits you here. Killala is located on the North Mayo Atlantic Coast overlooking Killala Bay. The Island of Bartragh is located half a mile offshore the town is dominated by the towns spires of the church of the Ireland Cathedral and the 12th century Round Tower. Killala is located in an area of great historical interest dotted around the town and several megalithic sites which are well preserved and very accessible. The local publicans and shopkeepers in the village act as informal tourist information centre's and have been known to arrange meetings between visitors and fisherman, who will be more than happy to take you angling in Killala Bay. The community is served by 3 local shops, 5 pubs most of which serve food and provide traditional music, with the bustling Ballina town been only 8 mils away.
