The island of Achill is accessed by road and it is easy to see why artists and writers are attracted to it with its unspoilt charm, relaxed atmosphere and "get away from it all" feeling. Castlebar and Westport are within an hours drive. Westport is a pretty town with a lake, park, heritage centre, craft shops, galleries, great restaurants, pubs with traditional Irish music and festivals in July and October. This is an ideal base for touring the Country or the Coastline. Great days out could include Connemara with its rugged scenery and National Park, Westport House and gardens, Vibrant Galway City, Knock Shrine, Croagh Patrick and much more.
