Clonbur is a scenic village 7 miles from the cottage, close to Cong which is famous for the beautiful Ashford Castle (which is well worth a visit). For outdoor enthusiasts Mount Gable is just 2km from Clonbur and takes approximately an hour to climb without difficulty. The climb is rewarded by spectacular views of both Lough Mask and Lough Corrib and breathtaking views of the Connemara Mountains. Clonbur village has a wide variety of restaurants and pubs. Nearby Westport town, a designated Heritage town, is worth the short trip - with its beautiful tree lined river and hanging baskets it is certainly merits its popularity as a tourist centre. There is a continental atmosphere about Westport. Near Westport you can climb Croagh Patrick which not for faint hearted, but for a more relaxing holiday you can enjoy spa treatments and island hopping or other pursuits.
