Kilkeel is a charming fishing village which is home to Northern Ireland's largest fishing fleet. In an area of outstanding natural beauty you are well situated for exploring the hidden marvels of the countryside and the picturesque South Down coast. Within 15 minutes of the property you can explore the heart of the Majestic Mourne mountains and enjoy many attractions including the Silent Valley reservoir, the Spelga Dam or simply experience one of the varied hiking trails. Hill walking & rock climbing, for many people, is what a holiday in the Mournes is all about! There are walking routes to satisfy the fittest and others suited to the less energetic: there are forest walks, beach walks, lowland or upland walks in the high Mournes. Kilkeel has a heritage town trail which is a walking tour of the main points of interest and historical sites. Visit the harbour, which has Northern Ireland’s largest fishing fleet. While away the hours by watching the boats load up supplies and ice before setting sail or watch for their return after a fishing expedition and landing at the fish market. The harbour is a hive of activity with fishermen mending nets, loading supplies, or carrying out maintenance. The harbour is also home to a couple of seals, which can be seen swimming around the harbour on the lookout for a handy supper.
