Dolphins are known to be seen on a regular basis near the shore. Muckross Head is noted for its unusual horizontally layered structure.

Glengesh Pass. Glengesh (Gleann geis, Glen of the Swans) is one of two glaciated valleys that sculpture the northern edge of the Banagh peninsula. The glen carries the road between Ardara and Carrick to a height of 270m/900ft over Glengesh Pass via a couple of hairpin bends. Glengesh Pass is a high pass with an elevated window on Loughros Beg Bay, exquisitely framed between the steep-sided Glengesh and Mulmosog mountains.
